The Pros and Cons of Children’s Media Device Usage – Brought To You By California Cryobank

With so much conflicting information out there about children and screen time, it’s a nice to have the facts in one easy-to-follow infographic. What stood out to me was how children’s use of mobile devices could increase or decrease certain skills based on the frequency of use, type of app, and parental involvement. And the sleep disorders! 1 hour more of TV = 7 minutes less sleep a day. That’s a mental note that will stick!

What are your thoughts?

Thank you for being tuned in parents, and a special thanks to Megan, Ghergich & Co., and California Cryo Bank for sharing this informative infographic. I’m looking for more tips, quotes, parenting stories, and recipes to feature! So, send yours in, too!

  2. This was a quick and informative read – thank you! We try to limit the screen time, but I can certainly see some of the learning benefits of some of the apps on tablets and such. Balance with other activities is so key – as well as being involved as the parent.

    • I think you hit the nail on the head re parental involvement, Louise. Often we think of media devices as engaging distractions to buy us time to multitask, which is fine in a limited sense. But to maximize their benefits, our involvement is key. Thanks for your input!

  3. What a great infographic! I’m constantly worrying myself over too much screen time for my little one, and he doesn’t even get that much screen time anyway. There are so many misconceptions and uncertainties when it comes to screen time for children, so it was helpful to see some of the pros and cons presented this way with statistics. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Great post! It really is all about moderation. All technology has it’s advantages and it’s draw backs, it’s up to us to use these tools in a healthy manner.
