Family Word Snacks: Eudaimonia & Euphoria

“Happiness is a trick of the mind … a wondrous trick not unlike magic. Everyone has magic. The trick is mastering one’s own mind.” ~C.N. Hamilton

eudaimonia: [yoo-duh-moh-nee-uh] (n) a contented state of being happy, healthy, and prosperous

in a sentence: Eudaimonia is a Greek word that literally means “human flourishing.” This is a sapid word (one of my favorites, in fact)!

euphoria: [yoo-fohr-ee-uh] (n) a temporary state of super, crazy happiness

in a sentence: It’s common for kids to experience euphoria on Christmas morning.
