democracy: (n) a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives

in a sentence: Many first world nations, such as the United States, use democracy as their system of government. This gives citizens a voice and a choice as to who governs over them.

Democracy vs. Plutocracy: (for parents) The current state of economic inequality in the United States is causing many to question whether it’s a democracy or a plutocracy. What do you think?
