Family Word Snacks: Ephemeral & Temporary

“One forgets words as one forgets names. One’s vocabulary needs constant fertilizing or it will die.” -Evelyn Waugh

ephemeral: (a) lasting only a day; lasting a very short time

in a sentence: Good times, bad times, they are all ephemeral. Enjoy the highs and don’t linger in the lows; life is barely a sigh before it’s an echo.

temporary: (a) lasting for only a limited period of time; not permanent

in a sentence: Luke thought it would be funny to draw on his face with a marker on picture day. He thought it was temporary; he thought it would wipe off. Oh, how he regretted using a permanent marker!

Keep in mind, a sharp vocabulary is especially ephemeral if you don’t put it to good use!
